Leo July 23-August 22
Have you been thinking about taking a course in one of the arts, dear Leo? Whether your preference is painting, music, drama, dance, or creative writing, if you commit to it now you’ll probably continue with it. The practical arts such as cooking, sewing, woodworking, and interior decoration are also a possibility. Whatever it is, it won’t be an interest quickly abandoned. If you begin with the idea of eventually doing it professionally, chances are you will. Good luck!

Ok So I have to work on my cooking skills, this may look bad but the CHICKEN was good!
So a few people have asked me….isn’t your chicken cooker TOO BIG for the cavity of the chicken? Shouldn’t it be narrow? Well, I had to shoot a picture with a chicken prior to baking to show…NOPE IT FITS! I like to put a sauce in the middle of the chicken cooker so the chicken comes out moist and tender. Plus the added spout aids in clean up or you could even use the juices, but I’m not the greatest cook, so I don’t really know what to do with the juice?

So I was searching on the
internet for Used Kilns and Wheels like so many folks do and I guess I
wasn’t expecting to find any or that they would be some place far away. Until I came upon a site for potters
http://www.pottersweb.net/index.php?ad&cat=kilns On this site was an ad for a kiln from SUSAN. She had received several things in an estate sale and was holding on to this kiln for someone to pick up for free. It’s a
Paragon A-66 and I found the link to the manufacture

She was available to answer my questions about this kiln firing to cone 6 for well thrown pottery, etc. And were to go to get parts, elements, etc. Very Helpful indeed! I’ll let you know when I get it set up and firing!

Putting it all together. Dinner plates and salad plates with Coffee mugs in a colorado theme with a mtn storm on the way!~

To complete this set was a CHICKEN COOKER and stacking bowls. The Chicken cooker is cool because you add a sauce in the middle where you place the chicken and when is boils up it goes straight into the chicken for alot of flavor. Plus you can add veggies around the side and it has a spout to pour out the juices!

My First REALLY REALLY large Bowl. I love to make cassrole dishes with handles as well. When the piece is Leather hard…the unknown becomes an option. Will it make it through the BISQUE without cracking? Than comes the glaze…what look am I trying to create? My focus at the moment is a rolling green with BLUE.
Next was a Colander and getting the holes to stay open with out the glaze closing them up is a challenge! It’s winter time in Colorado sooooooooo a Soup Tureen was an idea as well. The whole is key for a big spoon!

If the people in your life that come full circle ever had a CLUE on how much they have influenced your LIFE?
Translating from the Subconsciousby Nancy UtterbackInspired by a secret code she devised to prevent snooping brothers from publicizing her childhood diary, an artist uses pots as a journaling tool.As a child, Nancy Utterback was fascinated by mankind’s use of symbols to represent ideas and was endlessly curious about our myths and legends. She read the Bible from cover to cover at age eleven, studied Asian calligraphy and Egyptian heiroglyphics, and even came up with her own codes to disguise the most private thoughts in her diary. Now, as a grown up and an artist, Utterback draws on her childhood fascinations creating art that is rich with her own symbolism.“Stretched Vase,” 18 in. (46 cm) in length, thrown and altered stoneware, with slip, salt fired to Cone 10, $250, by Nancy Utterback, Erie, Colorado.
If you ever get the chance to meet up with Nancy…well you won’t ever forget her! Cow poop, cheese and wine, cold days outside with a pit firing……MEMORIES of a LIFETIME!

Did you ever have people in your life that have influenced you beyond measure? Years ago, at the City of Westminster Recreation Center, I met Phyllis,Nancy, and Johanna. These ladies have influenced me beyond measure.
Nancy Utterback was one such Lady and these are two pieces that I have treasured from years back. She opened up my world to clay, pottery, PIT FIRINGS, and SALT firings and we just began RAKU back then.
