Entries from March 2009

I tried to keep a WAGON WHEEL style for the butter dish. It fits a stick of butter nicely and I have several different designs that will be glazed with that “branded” look of the old west.

Some chip and dip sets, with different cover designs on the dip or center piece. I thought I’d be a bit different with these chip and dip sets to include LIDS. So it can be a “HOT DIP” like queso or bean dip or even artichoke dip would work here.

Some “CHEESY” platters to sell at summer shows, that are great gifts, etc.

My wagon wheel tray set as well. Great for cookies, crackers and cheese, anything that would look good on a serving tray…Hummmmm

Mint Julip Glasses seemed another natural for the May show in Parker, CO. The Kentucky Derby is coming up and Mint Julip’s are the rage. Plus I think “fruit Smoothies” would work in these glasses as well…..Hummmm

The regular spoon is a bit too short here but I think an ICE TEA spoon would show these off better.

Well I had to come up with some new pottery this year. I have been working on “STEMS” for cake plates, goblets, etc so fruit bowls or ice cream bowls seemed a natural here. I really like how these came out. I think they will be fun to market and with the chocolate 5 min cake recipe, well it should be a hit! Hope so…..

Well there’s this Parker Fest for 3 week end days. Starting on May 15-17,2009 The cost for a booth is reasonable and it’s juried so I thought I might take a look and see. Hummmmm It’s a 10 x 10 booth fee only 50.00 for 3 days starting at 4:00pm on Friday and Sat and Sunday. Seems like a good show. It’s for Innovative Artist’s and there will be 25 booths allowed. So It’s not really BIG and might be a good fit for me. Hummmmm
I was thinking of bringing some functional pottery like these here bowls in earthy glazes.

Maybe a few Martini glasses or Margarita glasses…
Some bowls in plum purple and blues….

Hummmm what to bring and what to make?????

I am not sure this picture does this glaze justice but I finally figured out the RED RED cone 6 glaze mystery. Hummmmm When I apply this glaze to just the bisqued clay and than put wax resist on top, well it stays put in what ever design I am working on. And the cool thing is when I sponge this red glaze on top of this Black glaze it seems to “FLOAT” on top of the black. Very cool!

I threw sets of different shape and style of mugs. I figure that a coffee shop/Roaster would be drinking and marketing coffee…..so MUGS!

I also thought maybe some soup bowls with a chocolate cake recipe for 5-minute microwave cake might be something to sell there?
I like cake and coffee so hummmmm????

Well I thought about storage this week-end and came up with these 3 jars/canisters/stoarge containers.

The tallest one is tall enough to store Lasagna or spaghetti. They all have my Leather and Lace style design with four little feet and a “knob” for the top. I kinda like them and think they are rather cute….hummmmmm now what glaze to use? I’m thinking a blue/brown but we shall see?

So Castle Rock, IMO, is not really known for art. Very little is around town and fewer folks seem to be interested in it. That being said, we do have a ART FEST in Sept that attracts artists from all over. So I was thinking….and well I remembered this sculpture in the middle of the street right before you hit main street and the railroad tracks. I love it and rather think is was like that years ago. I don’t know who the artist is yet… but I do admire the work!

I’m thinking Jimmy Buffet “Margaritaville”. I like the shape of these glasses and actually was first inspired by Martini’s but they have taken on a new persona and that of Margarita’s! Yummmy
