A few Tumblers, salad bowls, cheese and butter dishes…. all in the earthy brown tones.

DSC00071

Some Pie plates for all those PIES. .. .

DSC00073

Some Berry Bowls or Colanders with plates ( and yes all my holes made it with no glaze blocking them <G>).  That really was amazing with the runny glaze I was using.  LUCKY!

I think I am finally getting to know my glazes well enough to avoid the holes even in the runny ones! Or I am extremely LUCKY!  I’ll take either!  Wish me luck I hope I sell some at this Market!

A potter in the GARAGE!

July 28, 2009 · 4 Comments

Normally I have my studio in the basement (garden level) and my kiln in the garage.  Today, I wanted a change.  So I brought up my wheel and began potting in my garage.  I thought my neighbor’s would think I was really crazy but a few came over to check out what I was doing and to have a look at my work.  Very Fun!  I don’t really throw much in front of folks these day since I have a studio in my home and I’m not currently in a class or workshop.

I thought I might be “shy” at first and so I stayed a bit inside my garage instead of in the drive way, cooler really.  After a few BIG BOWLS, always fun, I set to work on my mugs, berry bowls, cheese plates, platters, soup tureen’s etc.  I thought well I could throw in front of folks, not so bad.

I got to say, the SUN did her part in helping dry things so I could trim in just a few short hours.  Now that was unexpected.  I have one more bisque load and than at least 2 glaze loads before Sat.  My Sweet  kiln is working over time for this Farmer’s market in Castle Rock on Saturday 8:00am-12:00 noon.

I stopped by this Last Sat to check things out, lots of farmers, fresh pasta and breads, etc.  No potters though….yippy I might have a niche here?  We’ll see, I am hoping for folks to take my business card, maybe be back next time ( I signed up for 3 Sat’s). I am also hoping to walk away with a few hundred in sales?  Dreamer!

Oh and a side note, rather humorous, my dog Otter was caught red pawed today.  He is supposed to be eating a little less( weight issue) and I was wondering why the birds were eating so many of my raspberries?  Well, yup it’s OTTER eating the raspberries and he’s rather “sneaky” in how he does it.  I caught him while looking out a window, because he stops when I enter the backyard.  <G>  If I can, I will try and take a picture of him eating my raspberries. . . .

In the works. . .Berry Bowls

DSC00044

So I am planning on selling at the Castle Rock Farmers Market (first time) next Saturday from 8:00AM to 12:00 noon.  I thought I would make some pottery that is in SEASON so to speak.  Raspberries, corn, veggies, etc.

DSC00042 DSC00043

DSC00045

Now I have been taught not to place holes in the bottom since glaze can tend to pool there and clogs them up.  However, I am using a matt glaze so I thought I’d give it a try?  I added little plates to catch the water or juice from the berries?

Than since I was on a roll, I made little cheese plates as well.  I have seen some farmer’s GOAT CHEESE and thought this might be a hit?

DSC00040

DSC00041

I played around with the knobs on TOP as i think I have a nice runny glaze for these and it will look better on this shape?  Maybe?

Lastly a few Soup Tureen’s they seem to be a hit with ladles.

Getting Ready for next show

July 20, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Interesting growth happening in Parker.  The Farmers’ Market has been split in 2, the produce being in one spot and crafts in another.  Plus this Sunday, they cut off Artists that had been set -up for Friday and Sat.  The traffic signs were moved up to include a different part of main street and the Artists were  left at the end of the street and cars were not blocked off where the Artists were.

Some would say great, easier to have cars parked near by tents.etc.  Others would say, at the end of the street many folks might not want to walk or may think the fair over?  Either would be a correct thought.  It seems the folks in Parker are split in how they are receiving Artists and crafts alike.

Unfortunately, once again, the Artists are left to bare the frustrations held by those in charge.  They can’t seem to get “TOGETHER” and so the Fair  or ParkerFestwas not well received by many.  Sad really.

I personally have no reason to return to disorganization and political frustrations there.  I appreciate the effort by a few to begin a movement in an ART VENUE but the seperation is too great to bare on this Artist.  And having to move my tent 2x’s in the beginning of set up and than experience a split on Sunday, well to much stress for me!  Sales were good, less than in the past 2 months, but still worth the effort this week-end, however it could have been better had I not been stressed out by what was happening.

Castle Rock has a Farmer’s Market on Saturdays.  I will be attending 3 Saturdays beginning in August.  August 1,2009 you can find me at the Castle Rock Farmer’s Market in a Booth at 8AM  I am giving this area a chance to see how Functional Pottery will be recieved in my home town at a Farmer’s market Venue.

And Prior to August 1st, I can be found at the opening of a Gala for Zuma Rescue Ranch on July 25,2009 from 4-9pm.

Showing in Parker

July 18, 2009 · 2 Comments

Well I am at the Parker show this week-end.  They moved me 2x’s in the beginning. Yikes what a pain!  I was almost completely set up and they moved me.  I had to move everything piece by piece and the tent.  Not smooth at all!  and caused me to work harder than I need to.

I had planned on the 5 series but this week-end will be the last for me.  The artists have opted out and less tents there this week-end.  Still I sold some Friday night and made my booth fee plus some.  All good there.

I heard of another on Santa Fee and it seemed to do well for some artist so I am looking into that one for next time!  And I will try Castle rock, my home, for August at the farmer’s market.  We’ll see how that goes?

Browns and EARTH TONE Glazes

July 16, 2009 · 17 Comments

DSC00027

It’s really kinda funny how I was motivated to come up with these?  I don’t usually do “tumblers”, no reason, guess they are just cylinders so not much interest on my part as of late.

However, I dropped some of my nice glasses and they broke.  So I thought well I could make a “few” tumblers to replace them.  I like earth tones, so I was playing with the glazes I like to see what I could come up with?  Always trying for a red in my cone 6 glazes, but a subtle red, not over powering… Hummmmmm

DSC00028

Image my suprise when these little Jewels came out of my kiln with the bowls I had made before.  Hummmmm

DSC00029

I don’t have any plates yet to go with these?  Wasn’t planning on this out come for my Parker show this week-end?  Hummm, really was planning on them to be tests in my cupboards…..Usually a mix match of pottery I don’t want to sell to the public.  I have yet to make a really nice set for my self…..Hummmmm

DSC00031

I kinda like them though….Maybe I will take them to the show and see what others think?  I think I will price these well, since I only have a few, and it has taken me over 2 years to come up with a glaze combo like this.  That way if they don;t sell, well they can come back to my Cupboard!  <G>

Overlapping Cone 6 Oxidation Glazes

July 13, 2009 · 7 Comments

DSC00011

I’m looking for a Matt/glossy finish in my glazes currently.  I like the Blue matt appearance here with blue and green cascading down the sides of this bowl.  Plus the Bright blue is subtle and than the majority of the blue is softened with a hint of green.

DSC00012

Here is more of a light grey brown with waterfall brown cascading over the sides.

Ahhhh something to PONDER?  This is really a large bowl with a smaller bowl set inside.  4 different glazes to get this affect.  I went for the browns and blues…..
